My name is Marseu Gordon and I am from a grain farm near Franklin, Manitoba where I am still very involved. I’ve just recently returned from travelling and am glad to have joined the Shur-Gro team here in Brandon as a Sales Agronomist. I graduated from University of Manitoba in May 2014 and spent the last two seasons both working on contract with Bayer Cropscience and travelling/working abroad during the winter months. I look forward to getting to know all the growers in the area and wish you all the best moving forward into harvest come August.
An earlier start to seeding this season has given our crops a great start, as evidenced by lush and thick crop stands. Our July “monsoon” season has kept crops well supplied with moisture, albeit a bit too much for some. Hopefully, a return to warm and drier conditions this month will put us in great shape for maximum kernel-filling and podding. Herbicide activity has been very good and fungicide application will prove to be a good investment in light of our recent wet weather. Insect levels have generally been low and no immediate threats have developed. We anticipate an earlier harvest this year, so be prepared for your pre-harvest strategy. Fertilizer is looking to be a great value this fall, so consider either fall application or year-end purchases to take advantage of the opportunity.
